This page was used in the "Enough Talking - Let's Use The Next Generation Technologies!" workshop session at ALT-C 2006.

It was used by discussion group 2 to keep a record of their discussions. In the first exercise the groups identified what they wanted to get out of the session. In this exercises they used the 'six thinking hats' approach to address the issues from six perspectives.

Exercise 2: Six Thinking Hats

Aim: To use mobile technologies to assist in medical and veterinary arenas

Issues:

• How many students have the mobile kit?
• ICT readiness of students?Abilities of ICT to cater for mobile uses?How many PDA/laptops etc?
• Rural Connectivity?
• Durably stats/information?
• Alternative technologies?
• Types of connection?
• What devices/software will work with VLEs?
• Convincing ICT that web 2.0 can be used and can be secure, and therefore should not be ignored
• Would I want my doctor looking up on a PDA?
• What if the battery runs out?
• Will patients trust new technologies?
• As a teacher, gut reaction would be very good?
• Student might get dependent on?
• Great way for data to be 'converyed' transferred
• Problems with networks
• Problems with reliability
• Viruses? Security?
